Cretan honey: a different way to taste the island

Discover the honey tasting included in the Elafonisi full-day tour, what to ask during the visit and how to plan around preferences or allergies.

Western Crete’s landscape around Topolia Gorge

A Cretan honey tasting adds a local food experience to a beach day. Our full-day tour includes a visit and tasting at Stathakis Family in Kaloudiana, where the experience introduces honey, its production and differences between varieties.

Look beyond a single idea of sweetness

A tasting is an opportunity to compare what is in front of you, ask questions and notice differences. The host can explain which varieties are being served and how their characteristics differ. The specific tasting selection is confirmed by the host.

Stathakis Family’s published programme includes guided tasting and longer experiences. Our package includes a honey experience; the precise session is arranged when your itinerary is confirmed. Do not assume every session in the host’s catalogue is included.

Questions to take to the tasting

You do not need specialist knowledge to enjoy the visit. Ask about the samples themselves and the process that brings them to the jar.

  • Which varieties are we tasting today?
  • What should we notice in their aroma, texture and flavour?
  • How does the producer handle and package the honey?
  • How should this particular honey be stored at home?

Mention dietary requirements in advance

Tell us about relevant food allergies or dietary requirements before booking. The host needs to confirm whether the chosen session can accommodate them. Avoid assuming that a tasting can be adapted after arrival.

This visit is about food and local production. We do not make health or medical claims about honey. Buying products is optional, and personal purchases are outside the advertised tour price.

Make room for the rest of your day

The honey experience forms part of an approximately 8–10-hour private itinerary with Elafonisi Beach and the Topolia Gorge route. Lunch is not included, and a taverna stop remains optional.

If your main priority is uninterrupted beach time, compare the Express tour before deciding. If you enjoy meeting a destination through its food, the full-day experience gives your day another dimension.

Your next step, made simple.

Choose your starting point, your group size and the kind of day you’d like.
